"Whose Revolution?"
This grant will support “Whose Revolution?,” a special exhibition at the Concord Museum in Concord, MA that will be on view from March 28 to September 1, 2025 and is part of the museum’s celebration and commemoration of America250. This exhibition will explore the complex and often contradictory meanings of revolution during the years leading up to the American Revolutionary War. By centering the experiences of Indigenous communities, enslaved and free Black communities, and women, “Whose Revolution” will offer a fresh, inclusive perspective on a pivotal moment in American history. Featured objects will include textiles, paintings, newspapers, and prints, with the goal of reanimating and reinterpreting the Museum’s extensive collection of 18th century American decorative arts. Americana’s grant will be used in part to create dynamic silhouettes that will highlight the experiences of enslaved people living in New England, projected behind a desk and high chest owned by their enslavers, to illuminate their contributions to significant moments leading up to the Revolution.
